About Nox Metals
Nox Metals raised an $11.5M seed led by Hyperion — with Palmer Luckey, Y Combinator, and YC partner Jared Friedman — on top of a YC Summer 2025 batch, building AI-powered, vertically integrated metals factories to reindustrialize American manufacturing. Founded by Zane Hengsperger (University of Michigan grad, Forbes 30 Under 30, with a large manufacturing following on X), Nox has shipped metal to hundreds of American factories in its first ~7 months, serves ~90 customers from local job shops to SpaceX and Anduril, and is reviving a WW2-era 30,000-sq-ft Detroit factory. The mission is loud and specific: build 100x more factories so America wins manufacturing. Nox is "Amazon Prime for cut-to-size metals" — it sells blocks of aluminum (plus Inconel and stainless on request), cut to spec with next-day turnaround and instant online quoting in milliseconds, not days. Its software, Nox Nest, runs an ML bin-packing/nesting solver that finds the optimal cut path across thousands of plates and dozens of alloys, and turns offcuts into pre-positioned inventory. Software, automation, and factory design replace the slow, manual quoting and cutting of legacy metal service centers.

About This Role

Nox is hiring a Sales Director / VP Sales to take the company from $14M to ~$100M — the scaling leader, not the zero-to-one closer. This is a player-coach who's personally generated $1M+, and who owns the executive layer Zane wants off his plate: forecasting, recruiting and managing the AE team, quota and comp-plan design, budget, and board-level sales reporting.

Nox sells metal, not software, but the motion is increasingly online: many products are bought online and closed from inbound leads, so a strong GTM brain who can close from inbound and 10x it with tooling fits well. It's a data-driven, AI-forward org — the CRM is built in-house, and Zane wants someone curious about AI tooling (how they've vetted and used software), not someone who insists on manual demos. Comp structure is deliberately open because designing it is the hire's job.

What You'll Own

  • Scaling revenue from ~$14M to ~$100M as a player-coach who still carries and closes
  • Forecasting, quota-setting, and building the comp/commission plan from scratch
  • Recruiting, managing, and coaching the AE team
  • Budget ownership and board-level sales reporting
  • Driving an online, inbound-led, data-driven sales motion and layering in tooling to scale it efficiently

Requirements

  • Has personally generated $1M+ and can show the receipts
  • Builds forecasts from real numbers; owns budget, quota, and board reporting
  • Closes from inbound / online leads; strong modern GTM brain
  • AI-forward and curious about tooling — has vetted and used software
  • Executive presence — operates at director/VP level, not "that's my boss's job"
  • Scaling operator who's taken a company through the ~$14M→$100M stretch
  • "Whatever it takes," strong work ethic; missionary energy for the manufacturing/reindustrialization mission
  • Data-driven; works cross-functionally to close more

Background

  • Led a team before as a Director or above (a Sales Manager may be too junior unless the scope proves out)
  • GTM into manufacturing at scale — or building materials (HVAC, cement, siding, millwork) as a VP/Director with comparable deal sizes
  • High-growth SaaS is fine for the right person, especially AI-insurance / inbound-close profiles (Coverage, Corgi) or strong GTM orgs (Vercel-type)

Location and Visa

  • In person in Detroit — a hard requirement
  • Reasonable travel — roughly once every 2–3 months to manufacturing customers (optional for some)

Nice-to-Have

  • Manufacturing / metals / building-materials GTM background specifically
  • Experience standing up sales tooling and an AI-forward, inbound motion
  • Can grow into a bigger (CRO-type) role over time

Who Will Thrive Here

  • A player-coach sales leader who's scaled a company through the $14M→$100M stretch and still loves to close
  • Someone with genuine executive presence — forecasts, board decks, comp plans, hard conversations
  • A "missionary" fired up by reindustrializing America, not just chasing a paycheck
  • AI-forward, data-driven, allergic to doing manually what tooling can 10x
