Solid technical experience. However, there was not enough evidence that they could transfer their technical depth to the role's specific areas of focus.

About Nickel
Nickel's mission is to add ten healthy years to your life — specifically to democratize billionaire-quality longevity care at employer-plan cost. The best doctors in the world spend extraordinary time with their patients, integrate aggressive diagnostics and longevity science into a tailored journey, and build the business model around the patient rather than insurance. Nickel is bringing that standard of care to everyone. The product architecture is unusual and technically ambitious: - Sovereign on-premise hardware: a GPU-equipped box that lives inside the physician's clinic. Patient data never leaves the practice. Sub-second local compute - Software stack: integrates with EHRs (Epic, Athena), wearables (Apple Watch, Samsung, Fitbit, Aura Ring), lab work, and imaging systems including Prenuvo full-body MRI - In-clinic camera and ambient voice: during appointments, the box captures body signals (skin flush, fatigue, posture) alongside voice — synthesizing multi-modal signals into a physician-facing recommendation - Human-in-the-loop AI: the AI generates concierge-medicine recommendations. The physician reviews and approves before anything reaches the patient. Nickel does not replace physicians; it 10x's their throughput - Marketplace layer: patients get concierge recommendations across a curated provider network (cryotherapy, red light therapy, nutrition, supplements, physical therapy, adjacent scans). Nickel monetizes the marketplace referrals The business dual-benefit: physicians can serve more patients at a higher standard of care. Patients get more services for the same spend. Nickel captures value on the marketplace referrals plus the hardware/software subscription. Stage and traction: - $30M pre-seed raise - Team of 20: ~10 hardware engineers in Shenzhen (China), plus stateside leadership from NVIDIA, Nike, NASA JPL, Samsung Health, plus ZS Associates - Design team and showroom in Venice, LA - Aug 1, 2026 soft launch (internal / limited) - Nov 1, 2026 consumer launch (public) - Currently quasi-stealth

About This Role

Nickel is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to build the physician-facing dashboard, patient-facing mobile / web application, data pipelines, and infrastructure that runs on and around the on-prem box.

The bar is high. Nickel's leadership team has 20-25+ years of experience at NVIDIA, Nike, NASA JPL, and Samsung Health.

The hire owns at least one of the following areas at real depth:

  • Distributed computing and systems: Kubernetes, large-scale orchestration, reliability engineering at load, architecting data layers, powering fast and intelligent applications, ensuring reliable / scalable / secure data pipelines with clean APIs
  • GPU acceleration: CUDA kernels, NVIDIA stack, performance optimization in constrained hardware environments (direct match for the on-prem box)
  • Retrieval-augmented generation and knowledge systems: RAG pipelines, vector databases, LLM integration in production
  • High-fidelity 3D graphics and visualization: real-time rendering, clinical or spatial data visualization
  • Front end (UI/UX) development: responsive, performant end-user interfaces across web and native mobile, translating high-fidelity design specs into clean, maintainable code, visual precision, fluid animations, platform-native feel
  • Systems orchestration: containerization, edge compute, firmware and software deployment pipelines in non-datacenter environments (the physician-clinic edge deployment is core to Nickel)

What Nickel looks for in your background:

  • Systems you built, owned, and ran in production under real load
  • Decisions you made on your own, without a playbook
  • Something you built because it was interesting, not because it was assigned — an open source project people actually use, a competition, a hard problem you just wanted to solve
  • Curiosity that shows up outside your job description

Requirements

  • 7-12 years of professional engineering experience
  • Real depth in at least one of the six expertise areas above
  • Production shipping track record
  • Autonomous builder DNA
  • Thick skin under pushback — Constant push-and-pull with leadership is baked into the culture
  • Mission alignment on longevity / concierge medicine
  • Available to start ASAP

Strong Bonuses

  • Open-source shipping track record with real README depth — not just repos, but visible intent and problem framing
  • Competition wins — ICPC, IOI, hackathon top prizes
  • Personal side projects that document escalation
  • Prior work at a company that shipped hardware + software integrated products — Tesla, Apple hardware, Meta AR/VR, Peloton, DJI, Ring
  • Direct experience with sovereign on-prem AI deployments — federal, healthcare, financial services
  • Experience with FDA-regulated / HIPAA-regulated environments
