- Owns EE assessment quality; builds question library
- Must: senior EE in deep tech + has interviewed engineers + strong communicator
This founding EE owns the quality of Colare’s electrical engineering assessments, from creating new questions to making sure existing ones reflect how engineering work is really done. A given week might mean reviewing a power-regulation circuit question for a CubeSat, scoping a new client’s technical requirements against the question library, and reworking a motor-controller design task to better match a real development workflow. The near-term focus is building out the question library across EE subdisciplines (avionics, power engineering, some firmware), reviewing content for accuracy, realism, and signal and editing directly in the platform, scoping onboarding for new and existing clients by mapping their requirements to library questions and filling gaps, and talking with engineering directors and team leads to understand their actual workflows, then turning that into clear, consistent evaluation criteria. The EE also works with ML engineers to teach models to score electrical work and checks those scores against expert judgment. Three to six months out is up in the air and likely changes substantially as the company grows.
Nain was clear on three must-haves: senior-level experience (staff even better; senior is the sweet spot of experience plus willingness to grind), having interviewed candidates before (most senior engineers have sat on interviews), and strong communication, which he says is rare in the EE space. On communication specifically: the EE must talk with customers to understand their work and also write questions that are understandable, where the difficulty is that the question is hard, not that it is confusing.
What You’ll Own
- Quality of EE assessments: reviewing for accuracy, realism, and signal, editing directly in the platform
- Building the question library across EE subdisciplines (avionics, power, some firmware), spanning circuit analysis, analog and digital design, embedded interfaces, and power
- Scoping onboarding for clients, mapping requirements to questions, developing new questions for gaps
- Talking with engineering directors and teams to understand real workflows and turning that into evaluation criteria
- Working with ML engineers to teach models to score EE work and validating against expert judgment
Requirements
Must-haves:
- Senior-level EE experience (staff even better), with a strong foundation in a deep-tech domain (space and defense, advanced manufacturing, or robotics)
- Experience interviewing candidates (e.g., junior engineers)
- Strong written communication and comfort talking directly with client engineering teams (write hard questions that are clear, not confusing)
Also wanted
- Professional-level proficiency with Altium Designer, KiCad, or equivalent ECAD tooling
- Solid familiarity with PCB workflows and circuit simulation tools
- Ability to turn engineering judgment into clear, consistent evaluation criteria
Who Will Thrive Here
- A senior EE from a deep-tech company who has seen design through prototyping and build, and can judge what real engineering work looks like
- A rare strong communicator who can write hard-but-clear assessments and talk to engineering directors
- A systems thinker who turns their own judgment into scalable criteria Someone energized by a founding, hands-on role, not an advisory one
