About Ambi
Ambi is a stealth AI-hardware startup building an integrated system across hardware, software, and cloud that acts as a "living memory" — capturing conversations, meetings, and the signals of everyday life so people move from intention to action without typing or UI navigation as the bottleneck. Core surfaces are Apple Watch, iPhone, and a Mac desktop app, with an agent + ASR (speech-to-text) pipeline underneath. It was founded by the ex-CEO's team out of Plaud (the AI note-taking hardware company that scaled ~$1M→$100M ARR in two years) — a group that grew disenchanted with how Plaud was building and left to take a high-agency swing at next-gen hardware. Ambi is ~40 people globally (majority in China), well-capitalized (~$20M raised), and is now building out its US core team in San Francisco.

About This Role

Ambi is hiring a Community Operations Lead to build and run its community presence 0-to-1 — starting with a ~500-person Discord from its current beta that's underactivated, and turning early adopters into true product evangelists. This is a high-level IC and "social architect," not a moderator: someone who owns moderation, engagement, and day-to-day ops, but whose real job is activating the community — building relationships with the most active users, creating the mechanisms that convert engaged members into evangelists, and making themselves one of the faces people associate with the Ambi community. It's cross-functional: partnering with product/research to turn the community into a UX-research asset, and with GTM to run coordinated campaigns with the most dedicated users ahead of the hardware launch.

Austin wants someone who's demonstrably done this before and can arrive with a roadmap: by month 1, real relationships with active members and a concrete plan across conversion, rewards, and research; by month 3, a humming Discord (busy enough to justify a second hire) plus a plan for in-person events and top-of-funnel; by month 6, an active community of ~500–1,000 selected evangelists, a rewards system, sub-hires for digital + IRL, and momentum Ambi can leverage at hardware launch.

What You'll Own

  • Build and run Ambi's community across platforms where early users are active (Discord, X, etc.)
  • Moderation, engagement, and day-to-day community operations
  • Community events and touchpoints, digital and in-person
  • The conversion engine: active member → evangelist, with rewards mechanisms
  • Partnering with product/research (UX research, studies) and GTM (coordinated campaigns)
  • Becoming a key, recognizable figure in the community; hiring the team beneath you as it scales

Requirements

  • Has built or meaningfully grown an online community 0-to-1 for a B2C or prosumer product (demonstrably — a real must)
  • Deep grasp of community psychology — why people join, engage, and become passionate — and can articulate it clearly
  • Thinks in roadmaps: knows what the community should do next and why it's exciting Independently makes calls, resolves discourse, builds engagement

Execution and Ownership

  • A "social architect" — analytical and activation-focused, second-order thinker (what brings people in, what the community does for the real world)
  • Operationally sharp; comfortable owning without a pre-built playbook and defining scope as it surfaces
  • Willing to roll sleeves up on day-to-day management, not just strategize
  • High agency; wants the community to be theirs

Background

  • 2+ years; grown a real community before (type-agnostic, but B2C/prosumer strongly preferred)
  • Nice-to-have: IRL event coordination, multilingual

Who Will Thrive Here

  • A proven 0-to-1 community builder who wants to own a community and be its face
  • Someone who thinks two orders deep — the funnel in, and the real-world impact out
  • Analytical activator, not a moderator; roadmap-driven and hands-on
  • Excited to build the evangelist base that powers a hardware launch
